Orquesta Típica Misteriosa Buenos Aires - "De Salón" 2010

I want to use the TVM-blog to share quality tango in all it's variety to tango fans worldwide, including music from today. One of my favorite current tango orchestras is definitely Orquesta Típica Misteriosa Buenos Aires. I have seen them twice in Buenos Aires and both times I loved their set. They are one of the few orchestras playing more in the style of Di Sarli and their music is very suitable for dancing.

I have to admit though that unfortunately the Misteriosa Buenos Aires album "De Salón" from 2010 doesn't quite capture their energy perfectly. Maybe it's just the fact that live music sounds better and being used to the sound of the 1920s-1950s recordings, there's something in the very high quality recording quality that is a bit of a turnoff to me personally. Anyway the album has great selection of classics and great arrangements and the orchestra shines especially in the instrumental songs. Get the album and try to catch them live in for example their own Milonga de la Misteriosa!

The album is available on Spotify - iTunes

Osvaldo Pugliese / Jorge Maciel - Spotify playlist

Jorge Maciel, Osvaldo Pugliese and Miguel Montero

I created this playlist of Pugliese and Maciel to look deeper into the recordings of Pugliese and try to find out if I could create something different from my normal tanda with Pugliese and Maciel, which is naturally built around the heavenly "Remembranza". Maciel recorded over 50 songs with Pugliese and also some duets with Miguel Montero and Abél Córdoba (not included in the playlist yet). I'm not  trying to re-invent the wheel here, but I'd like to hear your comments on which of these songs are your favorites and which ones you would consider still suitable for social dancing? "Esta noche de luna" and "El panuelito" at least are played in milongas sometimes.

I will be posting more playlists from the singers of Pugliese like Roberto Chanel and Alberto Moran soon. This playlist is in chronological order based on the list from www.tango.info.

Osvaldo Pugliese - Instrumentals - Spotify Playlist

To celebrate Christmas and the new blog I have compiled a Spotify playlist of instrumental tangos from Osvaldo Pugliese (until early 1970's) in chronological order. I tried to select the best quality versions available on Spotify. The playlist is based on the list of Pugliese's recordings found on www.tango.info. Enjoy!

Aníbal Troilo y su Orquesta Típica - Archivo RCA "Milongueando"

Here are some of the highest quality digitalizations available of the classic milongas and valses of Aníbal Troilo. Highly recommended.

This album is available on Spotify - iTunes Store

Aníbal Troilo y su orquesta - El inmortal "Pichucho"

Here's is a great compilation from the early years of Aníbal Troilo y su Orquesta Típica. The album includes all the tangos recorded with Francisco Fiorentino in 1941, but not the valses "Bajo un cielo de estrellas" and "Tu diagnóstico" and the milongas "Mano brava", "Con toda la voz que tengo" and "Del tiampo guapo". All the classic instrumentals from 1941 like "Cachirulo" are fortunately included as well. The songs follow each other in chronological order.

The quality of the digitalized recordings is excellent and the recordings have a very natural sound with some background noise remaining but none of the high end frequencies are ruined by filtering too much. This is the highest quality compilation I was able to find on Spotify for these recordings from 1941 and I highly recommend it.

The album is available on Spotify - iTunes Store - Amazon

At "Tanda of the Week" you can listen to tandas with Anibal Troilo.
